Color Emphasis Landscape Workshop "Through the language of watercolor, we painters can explore the natural world around us in fresh, exciting and more personal ways. Regardless of the landscape we choose to explore, or our personal approach to painting, we all have in common the search for a more vital color statement. Color offers us a wonderful opportunity to express our individual feelings about any chosen subject." Don’s Color Emphasis Landscape class isn’t geared to any specific level of achievement, rather artists of all levels will benefit from a four day exploration into color, design, organization, light, and their utilization in the exciting work of landscape painting. This workshop will be packed with demonstrations, discussions, and individual help, personal and group critiques. |

A Designed Approach to Abstraction John Salminen has been conducting workshops for many years, all around the country, from California to New York and from Rhode Island to Florida. He enjoys working with artists at all levels of experience and expertise. His workshops begin with abstraction, encouraging representational painters to experiment with a different style and challenging experienced abstract painters to explore new possibilities in expressing their creative voices. The design elements explored through abstraction are then applied to representational paintings. His workshops include demonstrations, critiques and lots of individual help. Artists are encouraged to expand upon their current levels of understanding and become more comfortable applying the principles and elements of design to their work. |

What You Will Learn in This Workshop How to understand and work with colors and values / How to control the moisture on your brush and your paper / How to glaze the colors / How to move the colors to create balance and movement / Working on designing your composition and so much more! The NO - Talking Policy During the workshop the students will see about 5 - 6 small demos, everyday, on how to solve a problem with colors or values. I believe that each demo should be around the WHY and HOW in an easy to understand format. |

Authentic Painting Workshop The focus of this workshop is to ask each participant to: 1. Question his/her ‘knee-jerk’ reactions to the art making process, 2. Examine what emotional content each wants his/her paintings to carry, who they each are authentically as artists, and what they each think/feel that they wish to express. Each student will have a private conference with the instructor based on 5 actual paintings, slides, or photos of work done in the past year. Students will have ample time to work on projects of their own choosing. The workshop will be “augmented by slides, lectures, discussions, class critiques and videos.” “Those relatively new to the art making process and need more guidance are also welcome.” |

About This Workshop: “I believe artists should not be content with the specific subject matter in which they excel, or with the specific process they have mastered, merely to repeat themselves within an established style. I feel artists should be sensitive to changes around them and, like scientists, be constantly exploring, experimenting, discovering, and developing new concepts, ideas, and ways of expression.” This workshop will include: a traditional approach, a saturated wet process, an improvisational approach, crinkling technique, and marbling and mono-printing. Each day will begin with a demonstration explaining a different concept and process. Mr.Chee will then work with each student as they apply the new experience to their own work. |

Mini
Workshops
In order to allow all our members, including those who work, access to workshops, the Workshop Committee is consulting with local artists to provide a variety of 2-4 hour, affordable, Saturday workshops. The artists are volunteering their time and expertise to our Guild. Any profits, after expenses, will be donated to the fund (Scholarship, Western Fed, Angel, etc.) selected by the instructor. Any material fees will go directly to the instructor to reimburse them for their supplies. Some of the dates and locations are not yet firm, but will be announced in future Sketchbook newsletters and at meetings when all details are completed. |
